The Five W’s on: The Jon Montgomery
Pizza Pigout-inspired Play It Forward project.

Who: Starting in 2017, Jon Montgomery and his wife Darla assembled an all-star volunteer committee to work with KidSport Victoria, creating a brand new community engagement opportunity aimed at raising some “dough” to get kids from the Capital Regional District off the sidelines and into the game. With the support of “stars” of local and international sports, media, and entertainment, for three years this event has been an amazing opportunity to see these folks assembled under one roof.

What: Given the difficult circumstances of the Spring and Summer of 2020, Play it Forward is a brand new initiative inspired by our community, and the businesses and supporters who have helped us so generously during better times.  Play it Forward will feature a large online silent auction, comprised of the items we purchase from local businesses (50% of corporate sponsorship will be used to fund these purchases); an online donation drive specific to the project, with great raffle prizes available to participants; we are also working on plans to bring you special nights of takeout pizza with a KidSport-fundraising component, at some of our favourite restaurants.

Where: primarily online, and conditions-allowing, takeout pizza events in late September.

When: Our Play it Forward online silent auction will run Sept 14-24; from Sept 18-24, enjoy take out pizza from The Beach House Restaurant in Cordova Bay, and half of your purchase will be donated to KidSport!

Why:  When Jon and Darla moved to Victoria, they didn’t

know a soul in town. They had two goals: live a quality life in a vibrant community that is safe, progressive and provides immense opportunities for their young family -  and to GIVE BACK to this same community.

After Olympic success at the 2010 Games in Vancouver/Whistler,
the Montgomerys wanted to take the opportunity to engage with charities like KidSport in a new capacity. Finding themselves with a more visible platform from which to spread the word about the power of sport and play, they recognized that this is where they could have the greatest impact. Sport gives back in a way that has far-reaching ripple effects through households and entire communities, and KidSport is a great way to get involved at an early age.

Every year, KidSport Greater Victoria reaches up to 1400 local kids in financial
need with the opportunity to join a season of sport of their choice. From all of us on the organizing committee, PPO sponsors and supporters, Thank You for your incredible past support, and for anything you can do to help us Play It Forward!
